I’m Catriona Moore — born in Scotland, now living in England, and married to artist David Lyon. With many years’ experience across design, marketing, retail, publishing and licensing, and after running our own businesses, we turned our focus to David Lyon Art. As sales of David’s originals, prints and cards increased, his work became more commercial and too far removed from the creative process.

In 2017 we founded The English Art Co. to increase income not just for David but for other UK artists. We were selected by Entrepreneurial Spark — the world’s largest free business and people accelerator programme, sponsored by KPMG, NatWest, Dell and Pinsent Mason — to attend a nine-month programme of cognitive and action-centred development.

We’ve sold online and through retailers, recruited artists, exhibited at Country Living Fairs, run pop-ups at HSBC branches, and taken part in a Northern Powerhouse trade mission to Paris, where we pitched to French businesses at the British Embassy.

In 2019 we launched Art Roundhay Park in Leeds, which supported over 120 artists and producers to exhibit and sell successfully. In one season alone there were 11,810 visitors across 247 days. Up to 90% of participating artists and 86% of producers recorded multiple sales; 60% of sales were original artworks, and overall sales increased by 332%.

Although Art Roundhay Park is now closed (that’s another story), our online shop and other retail partnerships continue to provide routes to market for our artists.
