The Project

These beautiful pen and ink drawings were rescued from a skip by a local resident in Roundhay, Leeds.

With the family's permission the prints have been donated to Friends of Roundhay Park because of their subject matter and historical relevance.

Friends of Roundhay Park invited The English Art Co. to publish a series of prints from these pen and ink drawings, a total of 26 different images of the park, all a limited edition of 200 Artist's Proofs.

We started this mission to work with Bronwen’s original art nearly two years ago. We have now worked with 14 pieces, framing and selling the originals, plus scanning and creating prints and notecards.

We have a 12 further original artist’s proofs to develop. All originals are available to buy and all proceeds go back to Friends of Roundhay Park.

About Bronwen

Initially, very little was known about the artist as the family has moved away from the area but after a successful call out we now know a little more about her.

Sadly she is deceased, she lived in the area in the 1980’s, her garden was a work of art too and she also loved to paint in the Lake District.

She was born in Dewsbury, lived on Shaftesbury Avenue (early 80s) with her second husband Ian Duncan. Ian was a teacher at Allerton Grange in the late 70s; she taught briefly at James Graham College Old Farnley then taught as an art teacher at Allerton High School.

We believe these pieces were done in early 1980s as she exhibited at The Mansion in the 80s - a few locals have called in to say they have an original.

Again using pen and ink, she also created beautifully decorated alphabet letters and drawings of Prague (she probably visited). Working in acrylic and watercolour she also loved to paint scenes from her stays in the Lake District (mirages and reflections on the lake).

A close friend recently called in to the gallery to update us:

“Bronwen was part of the North Leeds Peace Group and from there she was invited to go to Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp (1984/86). She was also a member of CND and the Alliance of Green Socialism too.

“Her garden was also a work of art, her garden parties were well known in the area and she was quite bohemian.

“She just loved life, nature, and was very creative and passionate”.
