Andrea Mosey

Andrea Mosey, a landscape artist working exclusively in oils out of her studio at Newby Hall, North Yorkshire.

Her work is inspired by the diverse North Yorkshire landscape and is characterised by its wide open spaces, big skies, and dramatic landscapes. Her paintings are evocative and peaceful whilst capturing a sense of time and place. She finds the wide variety of vistas to be a constant source of inspiration, with the quintessential countryside of the Dales, the bleakness of the Moors and the rugged strength of our coastlines. She enables to capture the essence of a landscape just by using her memory and imagination. The end result being something that feels familiar of a place close to our hearts and something that the viewer can relate to.

The techniques she uses vary between working wet in wet and the use of layering, depending of what the painting requires. Her work often starts with soft blended layers and then finishes with palette knife work to add gestural marks with thicker paint, occasionally adding a final glazing layer. After gathering all of her reference images and using preparatory sketches, she then puts this all to one side as each piece is is rarely a replica image of a particular place but an interpretation of her memories and imagination.

Andrea regularly exhibits in galleries throughout the UK and won the British Contemporary Art Award in 2023.
