Rachel Bentley

Rachel Bentley is an emerging mixed media artist who finds inspiration in the tranquillity of Yorkshire’s landscapes and the drama of its coastlines.

She enjoys the play element of creating art. Through building intricate layers, crafting textures from recycled materials and embracing ‘happy accidents’. She aims to capture the emotion felt when seeing the play of light, panoply of colour and diversity in nature.

She believes art is all about embracing life's transitions - and embracing ones true creative self. Her passion is encouraging others to join her in this creative exploration, to embrace the beauty around us, one canvas at a time.

As a self taught artist starting around 6 years ago, Rachel explores a range of techniques and opportunities to create. She loves working in acrylics with mainly larger artworks on canvas pushing into the abstract, majoring on big skies, landscapes and seas - or the more micro natural world with graphic studies of flowers and plants. Always with texture, and always translating the emotion of the world to canvas or paper.

This year having moved away from her professional life to focus on her art, she have been developing her skills in oils, collage and watercolour. These pieces are still textured, but drawing on draftsmanship, and then taken forward into a new series of watercolours. Rachel is also exploring the abstract, pushing the boundaries of what two (maybe three) colours, unusual painting tools and water can create.
